Meet Hand and Wrist Pain Specialist, Michael P. Nancollas, M.D.

A caring and trusted physician specializing in the management of upper extremity and hand problems, Dr. Nancollas completed his BA at Cornell University graduating cum laude with distinction in all subjects. He finished his Orthopaedic Residency and Hand Surgery Fellowship at SUNY Buffalo. After completing his medical training, he spent 20 years at Orthopaedic Associates of Central New York with other leading orthopaedic surgeons and physiatrists. He developed a successful practice treating hand, elbow and shoulder problems in newborns to the elderly. Since joining SOS in October of 2011, he has been able to collaborate with several of the leading hand surgeons in Central New York.
Dr. Nancollas has lectured internationally on the subjects of thumb arthritis and the use of imaging techniques in the diagnosis of hand diseases. He has a particular interest in the treatment of thumb arthritis and nerve compression disorders. He utilizes the latest arthroscopic and endoscopic techniques in the management of these problems. He has brought to his practice the use of office based ultrasound imaging, allowing, for example, the rapid diagnosis of thumb sprains and hand tumors.
Dr. Nancollas has used his personal experience as a musician to help many of the local amateur and professional artists overcome their upper extremity performance related injuries. He has been an active voice in the treatment of musicians through his presidency of the local Performing Arts Medicine Association.
